Dr. Kate Ellett Osteopath is a fully qualified Osteopath and is one of the Principal Osteopaths at Valued Health Osteopathy in Bentleigh East.

Dr. Kate Ellett Osteopath graduated from Victoria University in 2010 after completing her Bachelor of Science (Clinical Science) and Masters of Health Science (Osteopathy). Kate enjoys treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions across all ages. Kate has a particular interest in treating children and women, having completed further study in Pediatrics and Obstetrics.

Kate’s interest in treating women began early in her Osteopathic career following the completion of her Masters Research where she investigated the effect of Osteopathic treatment on period pain.

Kate places great importance in educating patients in causative behaviours, aggravating factors and self management strategies to complement her Osteopathic treatment. Kate also enjoys treating headaches and jaw dysfunctions where she finds her Osteopathic approach often provides relief. When treating patients, Kate first performs a thorough examination to determine if it is safe to treat her patient, then proceeds with a variety of musculoskeletal techniques with the aim of reducing pain and improving function.

Kate has also performed further training in Clinical Pilates and as such brings this experience into her consultations. Kate frequently utilises this training in her treatment and management of low back pain, postural complaints and pre/ post pregnancy. Kate often incorporates Pilates based exercises within her regular treatments. Kate regularly participates in further education so that she is always up to date with recent research in the field.

It is a requirement at Valued Health Osteopathy that all practitioners are registered with Osteopathy Australia (OA) and AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency).

What is Osteopathy?

As the Principal Osteopath and Director at Valued Health Osteopathy in Bentleigh East, Melbourne, I get asked this question a lot by many of our new patients. Most of these new patients have been referred from a friend or a relative who have advised them to try Osteopathy or to see an Osteopath for their sports injury, headaches or back and neck pain.

So, what is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy which uses a hands-on approach to healthcare. More importantly Osteopathy focuses on how your skeleton, joints, nerves and circulation work together (1). Osteopathy recognises the important link between the structures of the body and the way it functions[1].

So, to keep things simple, our Osteopaths at Valued Health Osteopathy will use a whole-body approach to treatment and may look at other parts of your body as well as the area where you are experiencing pain. For example, if you are experiencing back pain, your Osteopath may also examine your hips, pelvis, knees, ankles and feet.

During your first Osteopathic consultation, one of our Osteopaths at Valued Health Osteopathy in Bentleigh East, will perform a skilled examination and provide you with a working diagnosis and a reason for why you may be experiencing pain or suffering from an injury. It is also a requirement that all our Osteopaths at Valued Health Osteopathy are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Osteopathy Australia (OA).

No referral is needed to see one of our friendly Osteopaths at Valued Health Osteopathy. We have a very good relationship with many surrounding doctors, other health practitioners and personal trainers in the local community of Bentleigh East and surrounding suburbs.

Osteopathy is also covered by most private health funds and by Medicare’s Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan as referred by your General Practitioner.
